You will also complete a research project and a final design project on outdoor living to add to your professional design portfolio. You can add these specialist outdoor design skills to your existing interior design knowledge for a career as a specialist designer.
You will study 3 modules for the Online BA (Hons) Design for Outdoor Living Top-Up Degree.
This is the first of the specialist Design for Outdoor Living modules, and here you will be able to start tailoring your portfolio towards your specialist sector. Within this module you will explore the principles of outdoor living and designing the transitional space between the indoors and out. Selection of products, materials, finishes and furniture for outdoor living are also covered. You will also start to explore environmental issues, durability of materials and installation techniques.
This module will focus on the selection and placement of plants and planting to further enhance an environment and how they can be displayed to maximise both the interior and outdoor areas of your design. As part of this module you will create a range of drawings, from development sketches to your final design, with final presentation boards which will form part of your portfolio to display your skills in this specialist sector.
Building on the skills and understanding you have developed in previous modules, and with the support of your tutor, you will be given double the amount of time of previous modules to focus on a design and research based project of your choosing. This will be the culmination of your course and you will be able to add visuals, presentation boards, development sketches and technical drawings to complete your extensive portfolio, together with a written dissertation.

I wanted to study the subject at a professional level. I found the NDA which enabled me to carry on working whilst still studying.
I enjoyed the diploma course so much, I decided to use the NDA’s Progression Scholarship to move onto the BA (Hons) Degree…
BA(Hons) Interior Design
I looked at courses online and various institutes, and found the National Design Academy. I was instantly impressed by the website, the breakdown of the modules, the alumni stories and the lecturer stories…
I didn’t necessarily think that I would do the full degree… but I think it’s a really good way of learning more with a direct potential to work.
BA(Hons) Interior Design
Studying with NDA was a great experience. I really enjoyed the course. It was extremely beneficial, helpful and informative. I gained so much confidence after each module.
It was my first time to learn online and at first I was worried how to communicate with my tutors and friends, but I was really surprised how I was really supported by my tutors.
BA(Hons) Interior Design
Now I have finished the course with a First Class Honours, I am beginning to put my portfolio together, so I can apply for a full-time job as an interior designer.
I can’t wait to start working in a professional setting, so I can learn from different designers, develop my skills and give my own creative input in the design process.
BA(Hons) Interior Design
I loved the flexibility of the course and that I could do it all online. I was living in Spain at the time, so it suited my schedule. I also liked that all the courses were accredited, which was important to me.
I’ve recently completed my degree and I’m now waiting to receive my final degree classification!
BA(Hons) Interior Design
I had already completed two courses at NDA… which I thoroughly enjoyed. They deepened my love for interior design, so continuing with NDA felt like the natural next step.
My ultimate goal (after my degree) is to start my own business, creating an interior design warehouse and studio, where I can put everything I’ve learned into practice.
BA(Hons) Interior Design
I have gained many new skills like planning how to use space, the use of creative lighting, the importance of sustainable design and how to efficiently use a show home and home staging.
I would recommended to NDA to all people who have a passion for interior design, and those looking to get an Accredited UK Degree in Interior Design.
