Brabantia’s “Pimp Our Print” design competition has begun. Following on from the exceptionally successful “Design Your Bin” competition that ran last year, Brabantia have once more teamed up with the National Design Academy to promote the latest “Pimp Our Print” design competition.
The “Pimp Our Print” competition has been launched internationally by Brabantia with the aim of finding the most inspirational and unique looking design for the Patrice range of canisters. Brabantia’s belief behind these competitions is focussed on the importance of their customers getting the opportunity to design ideas for future products.
The Prize!
Not only will the winner of the international “Pimp Our Print” competition get the privilege of seeing their design produced and on sale as part of Brabantia’s 2014 range but also a once in a lifetime 3 day trip for two to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2014 in Milan.
However, as a result of the high level of quality entrants from NDA students in the past, Brabantia have partnered with the National Design Academy to run an NDA specific competition in addition to the international design competition. This means that all NDA students that enter the “Pimp Our Print” competition will also have their designs judged separately for an exclusive chance to have their design produced as a one-off special.
Last Year’s NDA “Design Your Bin” Winner
Last year’s NDA winner of the “Design Your Bin” competition was Victoria Hedley who produced a fantastically vibrant pink ‘bin’ design. Victoria explains the concepts behind her design; “I wanted to create a design that was both simple and contemporary, which would appeal to a wide consumer base. There is a huge market for the well-known ‘Sugar, Tea & Coffee’ containers and so I had an idea that a series of similar bins could meet popular demand”.
Aim of the competition
Following Victoria’s success last year we are now looking for our next designer champion. Anne Slatts, Communication Manager at Brabantia, explains the reasons for creating this exciting competition; “This competition is ultimately about recognizing upcoming designers and showcasing their talents. We’re looking to the latest generation of creatives to come up with a unique and fresh design that neatly captures the spirit of today, much as our iconic Patrice design did some 40 years ago.”
This year the product of choice is the exceptionally popular Patrice range of coffee, tea and sugar canisters. There is plenty of scope for design and creativity within this task and entrants are encouraged to ‘let their imaginations run wild’. Brabantia are open and keen to embrace a whole range of design mediums from modern art to street art and everything in-between. For more information on the Patrice range visit the Brabantia website.
How to enter the competition
International “Pimp Our Print” competition
All designs will need to be a unique and original creation and need to be uploaded in a JPG format via www.brabantia.com/design. The closing date for the competition is midnight on 22nd October 2013. All entries will be displayed in the Gallery on the Brabantia website where the general public can vote for their favourite designs.
Brabantia have assembled an impressive International Interior Design Panel composed of popular design bloggers to help select the competition winner. The panel’s role will be to narrow down the entries to a final shortlist of weird and wonderful designs from which the Brabantia Jury will choose the ultimate winner.
The runners up of the international “Pimp Our Print” competition will receive their design printed on a set of one-off Brabantia canisters.
NDA “Pimp Our Print” competition
Once the entrants have uploaded their original design creation to the Brabantia website, NDA students are required to copy the URL from the top of the page and email this link along with their own personal details (name, NDA student number, email address and telephone number) to: NDA@montagecomms.com
All NDA entries received via email at the above address will then be collated and judged by our very own in-house design experts; Anthony Rayworth (Course Director) and Vicky Arbuthnot (Senior Design Tutor).
The winners of the NDA “Pimp Our Print” competition will receive their design printed on a set of one-off Brabantia canisters as well as the ability to enhance their CV with this prestigious accolade.
The NDA “Pimp Our Print” competition closes on 22nd October at midnight.
Winners for both competitions will be announced mid-November.
