Storage Ideas for Small Hallway Spaces

Storage ideas for small hallway spaces:

Many of us are a bit tight on space in our homes. The hallway is a particular area that suffers from this. We have to try to balance our coats, shoes, keys, post and other miscellaneous clutter that travels around with us, and needs a place to be stored.

We had a look at hallways back in our 2012 edition of tutor publication VISION Interiors Magazine, where our tutor’s came up with clever ideas on how to improve a tiny hallway space with multifunctional and space-friendly design ideas focused around the theme of ‘typography‘. Caroline’s design below, utilises the space by integrating a storage solution for coats, bags and belongings with a type based shelving unit design.

Those who are lucky enough to have a bigger hallway, but still struggle for space in other areas of your home could consider making clever use of the under-stairs area for storage, a downstairs loo or even an under stairs office could be incorporated. This modern shelving design below, on SHDI utilises the moveable shelving space to display items neatly, instead of hiding them away. It also houses additional storage space behind the slot-in shelving panels so even more ‘dead space’ can be utilised.

The wooden DigDigs hallway wall piece below is a multi-functional design that offers a space-concious design that sits flush on the wall until in use. Pop-out hooks and shelving can be pulled out as-and-when they are needed for  keys, coats and bags to be hung on, or handy slot down that can hold wallets, purses or phones when required.

This International Decor free-standing shoe rack might be better incorporated into a small hallway corner. With a sleek, modern design, each compartment can be fanned out to house shoes, or each spacious compartment could be used to store other household items as well. Once filled, each compartment can be handily tucked back away to save space.

  1. Space under stairs is a great place to store things. This is amazing trick if you have to store things you don`t want to move often. I put there my books. I have a big library. Greetings!
