National Design Academy student nominated for an award

Joanna Ford, a former student of the National Design Academy (NDA) who has gone on to set up her own successful Interior Design practice in Australia, has been nominated as an Emerging AusMumpreneur of the Year in the 2012 AusMumpreneur Awards.

Joanna Ford completed the Diploma in Professional Interior Design at the NDA whilst living in London and has never looked back. “Making the decision to take on the NDA Professional Interior Design Diploma has offered me a completely new career. I am finally doing something I love. I highly recommend it!”

The 2012 AusMumpreneur Awards, presented by connect2mums, celebrate Mums from Australia and New Zealand who are achieving outstanding success in areas such as business, product development, services and innovation in businesses. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.

Joanna Ford Interior Design provides professional, yet affordable and accessible, residential interior design services for people seeking assistance with their design and decorating choices.

“I like to think that I simply bring clients’ visions to life, by way of my personal approach, innovative ideas, industry knowledge, and experience,” said Joanna.

“I aim to create a home that is unique, enduring, reflective of people’s interests and lifestyles, and has a soul. I invest time listening and understanding, then offer personal and specialised attention to inform, inspire, and assist the transformation of their home.”

There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Joanna explains.

“I love the challenge of pursuing my passion, developing and defining my style, building my own business and professional identity around it, giving myself the freedom to succeed, and affording me control over my time to achieve the balance I want between family and business.”

It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and Joanna gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise.

“Don’t listen to the reasons why not; only the reasons why. Follow your dream and you can make it real. The risks, hard work, determination, bumps and hurdles only serve to make you more confident and secure, and the business rewards more worthwhile. Set your mind, and you will amaze yourself.”

Finalists will be selected by a public vote at www.connect2mums.ning.com with voting closing at midnight on Sunday 22 July 2012. The winners of the 2012 AusMumpreneur Awards will be announced at a glamorous Awards dinner at Park Royal Darling Harbour in Sydney on Saturday 8 September 2012.
