It's been few years on from your original spotlight, how would you describe your journey as an interior designer since then?

Since my first spotlight, I’ve grown into a more confident and strategic designer blending creativity with practicality and a stronger understanding of how spaces actually function.

My focus has shifted toward crafting interiors that tell a story and creates emotional impact.

Back when you first studied with NDA, you talked about your passion for art and design. Has your motivation or inspiration changed as you've grown in the industry?

I still have the same passion towards art and design. Designing is what I love doing and even so when you do it for a living. I wouldn’t be here if I was not focused, disciplined and determined to do it.

Looking back at your earlier work, how do you think your creative process has evolved over the past few years?

In the past, I focused heavily on the visual outcome. Now, my process begins with mood, narrative and spatial intention, the visuals follow naturally from there.

After completing the diploma, what prompted you to progress onto the BA (Hons) Interior Design degree?

I simply wanted more of an in-depth knowledge of the industry, something that the diploma alone, was not sufficient for me.

Your tutor has told us you've shown real growth across your modules - what do you feel has helped you improve the most in recent months?

My tutor (Martin) has always been so supportive and I have improved as a designer following his feedback and work on things that I needed to improve. I strongly believe that stepping out of the comfort zone has helped me grow and allowing me to think outside the box.

How has studying fully remote at NDA (via the Virtual Learning Studio) helped you balance work, study and real-world client work?

I can’t say it was easy, working full time, studying and doing freelance work back to back, has definitely filled my schedule. Would I change anything, definitely not. I really enjoy doing what I do.

In terms of your design style, how would you describe it now compared to when you first completed your diploma? Has it shifted or evolved?

Back then I was slightly shy and I wouldn’t try other styles apart from minimalistic or contemporary. But now my design style is very progressive, bold and deconstructive. I really do like to create a wow factor but it has to be fully practical otherwise is just good for the eyes.

What advice would you give to current NDA students who are just starting their interior design journey?

Believe in yourselves guys. Stay focused and determined. NDA is a platform that allows you to become a professional interior designer whilst you’re able to go to work and that alone should motivate you to continue your studies.

Thank you to Daniel for submitting his student spotlight!

What is UK Government Funding?

UK students pay approximately 50% of the full course fee – the balance is funded by the UK Government’s Adult education budget (AEB).

The National Design Academy is the only design school to be able to offer this funding as our Diplomas are all fully accredited by AIM Qualifications.
