Interior Design Awards – Competition Update

The National Design Academy is excited to announce the launch of an interior design competition in conjunction with Creatively Different Blinds.

The aim of the Interior Design Awards competition is for entrants to produce an original room set design that incorporates a blind from the Creatively Different Blinds product range or alternatively to produce an original design themselves.

The designs will be split into three categories:

  1. Residential/domestic design (using an already existing product from the Creatively Different Blinds selection)
  2. Commercial design (using an already existing product from the Creatively Different Blinds selection)
  3. A new blind design created specifically by the designer to suit one of the given spaces

Brief:

Designers are asked to choose one of the selections from either a residential or commercial project (i.e. to design blinds for a kitchen, or to design blinds for a meeting room) in which to base their project on.

Residential

The residential brief should be based around either a kitchen or living room design.  There are no plans or site analysis given as the brief is completely open in terms of scale and range.  Designers should create an appropriate space in which to apply their designs.

Entrants should design a small room set (from the above selection) with the use of a product from Creatively Different Blinds selection, or to incorporate blinds of your own design into the scheme.

Remember, the focus is on the use of the blinds and how they are incorporated into the scheme.

Commercial

The commercial brief should be based around either an office reception space or a meeting room.

What to submit:

Designers are given the freedom to express their designs in any manner which they see fit.  The designs can be presented on A3 presentation boards (digital submissions only), which show the chosen blind (an existing design or bespoke creation) and showing how these are incorporated into the space.  This can be shown either through 3D CAD visuals and/or hand-drawn visuals and sketches.

Include as much visual information as possible to communicate how your designs will work in the chosen space.

A short description of your design scheme should also be incorporated within the submission, noting reasons for application, reasons behind the choice of blind and/or creation of a new design and why it is suitable for the space.

N.B If you are creating hand-produced presentation boards, please submit high-quality scans and email to the entry address below

How to enter:

In order to qualify for entering this competition, entrants must have emailed pr@nda.ac.uk with their name before 30th May 2014 to be recorded as an entrant. Applications should be titled ‘Think Creative. Think Creatively Different Design Awards’.

All entries are to be submitted to pr@nda.ac.uk by 12pm on 15th September 2014. All entries will be judged by the National Design Academy’s Director of Studies; Anthony Rayworth, Alistair Archer, Managing Director of Creatively Different Blinds and Senior Design Tutor Vicky Arbuthnot.
