Dulux have announced their Colour of the Year 2018 as Heart Wood.
Heart Wood, Dulux Colour Future’s 2018 choice is a warm, heathery mauve shade. The colour was handpicked by the research team at Dulux Colour Futures for what it represents and its relevance to the current global climate. When observing the colours diverse use in the stylings built by Dulux, it’s clear to see why Heart Wood was 2018’s pick.
Dulux give this description for Heart Wood:
‘’Heart Wood references the tactile qualities of natural wood and has a warm neutral tone with a hint of heather that captures the essence of A Welcome Home.’’
The Colour Futures team also devised four Heart Wood centred colour palettes representing different moods and styles for every space. Each palette brings in a range of complementary colours that work harmoniously together, no matter which ones you choose to pair. The four palettes are labelled as; The Heart Wood Home, The Comforting Home, The Inviting Home and The Playful Home.
The Heart Wood Home:
The Heart Wood Home moves from blues to pinks with Heart Wood at its centre. This was developed by the Colour Futures team to represent the aesthetic of a welcoming home. The colours connect to nature, yet bring enough interest to the space to allow for minimal, tactile and comfortable additions such as leather and delicate texture fabrics.
The Comforting Home:
The Comforting Home surrounds Heart Wood with reds and yellows. These colours build a retreat within your home with the palette generating a sense of warmth and re-generation with its rich, sanctuary like mood.
Heleen Van Gent, Creative Director of Global Aesthetic Centre, has this to say of the Comforting Home palette:
‘’The Comforting Home shows an eye for detail, where the dedicated use of colour enhances the architectural features of the home.’’
The Inviting Home:
The Inviting Home draws on cooler influences pairing greys and blues with Heart Wood. This scheme was developed to capture both comfort and convenience, ideal for families and the perfect neutral back drop for those searching for a clear head. This palette was made for spaces that invite natural light.
The Playful Home:
The Playful Home brings in yellows and greens around Heart Wood. Heleen Van Gent perfectly summarises the final palette with this comment:
‘’In the Playful Home, pops of colour add a sense of fun and energy, with shades of green inspired by nature.’’
Even with a small space, The Playful Home offers a creative, vibrant area for all.
