Introduction to Professional Curtain Making

Course Summary

This course is ideal if you want to design and make beautiful hand finished curtains for your home, or if you would like to take the first steps towards starting your own curtain making business.

With step-by-step practical demonstrations and hints and tips of the trade, this course teaches you the essential skills to work through your own curtain making project from start to finish.

What will I study? What does the course cover?

The course introduces you to:
  • How to choose appropriate fabrics and linings
  • How to measure windows
  • How to design curtains to enhance different windows
  • How to calculate fabric quantities
  • Hems and headings and choosing correct curtain fullness
  • How to cost a project and charge for a professional curtain making service.
 
Sewing and construction methods:
  • Hand and machine stitching
  • Mitred corners and joining multiple curtain lengths
  • Creating a sample sized curtain
  • How to transfer these skills to full sized curtain projects
  • How to ensure a professional finish

Course Summary

With step-by-step practical demonstrations and professional guidance this course is ideal for anyone who would like to learn to make their own roman blinds or start a small business making window treatments to a professional standard.

With hints and tips of the trade, this course teaches you the essential skills to work through your own roman blind making project from start to finish.

What will I study? What does the course cover?

The course introduces you to:
  • How to choose appropriate materials for roman blind designs
  • How to measure windows
  •  How to design roman blinds for different window types
  • How to calculate fabric quantities
  • How to cost a project and charge for a professional roman blind making service
 
Sewing and construction methods:
  • Hand and machine stitching
  • Mitred corners and joining multiple fabric lengths
  • How to apply all the techniques learnt to make a sample roman blind

How will you study?

5 days In-Studio plus 15 hours home study over the following 2 weeks (3 weeks total)

Study is through a blend of classroom-based workshops and home study, supported with online interactive resources. In studio, you will receive lots of tutor guidance and support.

Throughout home study, you have full online access to our resources and your Personal Tutor. You will need to complete some short written tasks and some practical work.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for the course and associated funding, you must not hold a GCSE Maths at Grade C (4 (Standard Pass) / 5 (Strong Pass)) or above, or equivalent Level 2 numeracy qualification.

*Funding is only available for adults living in the Nottinghamshire area.

The course is suitable for beginners, although basic sewing skills are required.

All equipment and materials are provided.

Your achievements on the above courses can be transferred to the Diploma, reducing the amount of work needed so you can complete the Diploma in less time, with only 60% course fee to pay.
