FdA Student Testimonial - Sophie Cartwright

"I have always been interested in all things creative, making my own clothes whilst at Uni. I also developed an interest in history and architecture there, which stemmed from an archaeology module I did in my second year in France, whilst I was studying away from home in the Loire Valley. I felt I now wanted to do another degree course, but would not have been able to attend Uni as I was working full time and also had a three year old. I chose the NDA for my Foundation Degree in Interior Design because I wanted a distance learning course, and I was particularly impressed with the VLS.
This course has kept me going for the last 3 years; I was considering joining in Autumn 2007 when I got diagnosed with breast cancer. It made my mind up, as I thought I would need something to do if I was to be stuck at home for months. I was very lucky, and wasn't stuck at home for months, but the FdA kept me focussed on the good things in life, and pursuing ones own interests.
Towards the end of the course, just before Christmas, I had a bad car accident and was at home for several weeks unable to walk - Again I found solace in my studies.
I would recommend this course to anyone of an independent disposition, as the guidence is not prescriptive, tutors are great and materials are extensive. I now plan to enrol on the BA (Hons) Interior Design.
Thank You"
