This course is validated and awarded by our partner Staffordshire University, the Certificate will state 'Staffordshire University' and the Graduation ceremony is part of the Staffordshire University Awards Ceremony. The course is delivered by the National Design Academy via part-time online distance learning.
This innovative Master of Arts Degree in Interior Design, provides an opportunity to study a taught course at post-graduate level by distance learning. Our distance learning Masters Degree is equally suitable for those currently working in the design or architecture professions and wish to build upon previous qualifications as well as recent graduates from a BA(Hons) programme or equivalent.
The programme of study is focused upon the present and future requirements of the design profession and provides an opportunity to take your study to a higher level, developing knowledge and skills relevant to the industry. The focus will be on the analysis and evaluation of material and the development of critical thinking.
A sequence of taught Modules exploring essential interior design strategies, provides a structure within which you are encouraged to develop an individual research pathway. You will be able to focus on the specific areas of interest eg furniture and follow this throughout the course.

Advanced Research Methods
This Module develops your research and academic writing knowledge and skills as well as the ability to understand argument styles and be able to critique current or emerging aspects of interior design.
Innovative Technology in Interior Design
Innovation in products, materials and technologies from a broad range of industries provide the focus for this Module. The development of these materials will be explored, analysed and evaluated with particular attention to sustainability and changing cultural values. You may focus on any aspect of interior design for this Module.
Trend Forecasting in Interior Design
The ability to detect emerging trends is essential to the success of a design-based profession. This Module develops your understanding of trend intelligence across colour, form, pattern, structure, culture and ethics. You will also develop your communication skills by evaluating how to present your findings to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Cultural Contexts in Interior Design
Within this MA you are encouraged to explore the artistic, philosophical, literary, social and political influences on interior design through your own creative output. Cultural diversity within interior design will also be investigated within this Module, which reflects real-world design practice.
Interior Design Practice Management
Environmentally sustainable interior design and its relationship with creativity, business practice and management provide the focus of this Module. This is reinforced by understanding of the design process and client considerations.
Final Project
This extended Module encourages you to demonstrate the advanced knowledge and analytical skills gained throughout your studies. You will develop a portfolio of work which reflects your research interests and supports your career objectives within the field of interior design.
